WORKSHOP ON THE FIRST WORKING DAY OF ECER 2025 IN ATHENS ABOUT "LATVIAN KNOT SCRIPT AND THE LATVJU DAINAS, THE DIVINE HYMNS OF DIEVTURIBA". SPEAKER: UGIS NASTEVICS

 

At the second workshop of the first working day of ECER 2025 in Athens, Ugis Nastevics of the Latvijas Dievturu sadraudze, introduced the participants to the «Latvian Knot Script and the Latvju Dainas, the divine hymns of Dievturība». In this workshop the presenter shared the methods used by the Latvian people to write and create hymns for the gods through knots on woolen stands. These knots were a code between the followers of the Latvian Ethnic Religion and through that they were able to keep their tradition alive and hidden from the preying eyes of the Christian clergy.
